Money/Job Dilemma. Really need some help here.?

About 3 weeks ago I lost my job. I immediatly began to activley seek a new job while living of my savings. On Monday my savings ran dry and I was peniless. I then decided I would have to claim Job Seekers Allowance while searching to survive. I was due to ‘sign on’ for the first time today but earlier today I recieved a job offer from a place I applied at next week. I went to the job center and explained, they told me that since if I accept the job I am no longer eligable for the £80 due to go into my back account this week and since I hadn’t been on the JSA for long enough I am not entitled to a penny for finding the job. Now this job pays monthly and I will be starting tommorow. Which will leave me broke for a month which will mean walking to and from work with no money for food or anything else for that matter. So i’m facing the dilemma that if I take the job I won’t be able to afford to live if I decline the job I will recieve my job seekers allowance but will have to start my job search over again. I’ve already asked friends and family to loan me some money til payday but none of them can. I also applied for a loan and overdraft and both were rejected.

I’m stuck in a real rut here. I feel pretty betrayed because there are millions of people around the UK (including ALOT of asylum seekers) claiming money of the government with no intention of ever finding a job and an honest guy like myself is being left to fend for myself the first time i’ve ever asked them for help. I’ve paid taxes for the last 3 years and this is the first time i’ve been out of work.

What can I do?

I feel for you. In America, the welfare system was created for a good reason to only turn around and have it be taken advantage of by people who have no desire to better themselves. Don’t get me wrong, welfare is there if you NEED it but not to live off of the taxpayers.
Keep the job you were offered because it may be the only thing to come along for a while.
If you sold some things you would have immediate money. You can also take a part-time waiter job to make immediate cash.
    I wish you the best!

I definately think you should take the job, you never know how the market is going to be and how long it will take you to find another. As far as your money situation, can you possibly sell something. Sell clothes to a place that buys gently used clothes, sell something valuable, pawn something (dont know if you have pawn shops in the UK) but , that would be what I suggest in order to get money for food over the next month……..sell something!

Your new job should have in place some kind of wages advance. I would explain to them you require x amount and they will deduct it from your first pay

that really does put you in a bad situation. I feel bad for you. you should take the job and like someone else said sell something to a pawn shop, then if you want it back you can get it back when you get paid again. i think they give you so long to buy back. this way you can have some money to get you through and you can start your job.
You should be proud of yourself for looking os hard and finding a job so quickly. sorry for you having the slap across the kisser tho.. what a bummer huh. good luck!

    The system stinks.
I’d advise you to ask your employer for subs, if you choose to still accept the job, as you have little choice than to do otherwise.
Play the game, and get something back – check out http://www.entitledto.co.uk and see what other benefits you may get.

I signed on for the first ever time today, and luckily I am able to collect JSA – having run my own business for over ten years I was told that it would depend on my National Insurance contributions over the last two years if I would actually get any money at all.
I would like to work, but it would go against me at the moment as I am going bankrupt next week, so I have to play the system for the first time in 25 years of work.
If you can’t beat them, join them.

    A little joke about a job centre for you ;

A guy walks into the local Job Centre Plus, marches straight up to the counter and says, "You know, I just hate drawing welfare. I’d really rather have a job."

The social worker behind the counter says, "Your timing is excellent. We just got a job opening from a very wealthy old man who wants a chauffeur and bodyguard for his beautiful nymphomaniac daughter. You’ll have to drive around in his Mercedes, but he’ll supply all of your clothes. Because of the long hours, meals will be provided. You’ll be expected to escort her on her overseas holiday trips. You will have to satisfy her sexual urges. You’ll be provided a two-bedroom flat above the garage. The starting salary is £200,000 a year."

The guy, wide-eyed, says, "You’re pulling my leg!"

The social worker says, "Yeah, well, you started it."

Definitely take the new job offer! And see if you can somehow make a little money to survive while you are waiting for your first paycheck. I would try selling some of your items on the internet or your clothes at a used clothing store. Try pawning something of yours like electronic or jewelry. I would also try getting a job as a server at a restaurant or bar at night so that you can make tips nightly and have money on you. Then when you get your paycheck from your day job , you can quit your night job. Good luck!

go to citizens advice you should be eligible for a hardship grant or at least something and my suggestion would be go ask they can only say no and in terms of jobseekers dont tell them you ve accepted the job and accwept the job or youll starve
