I feel for you. In America, the welfare system was created for a good reason to only turn around and have it be taken advantage of by people who have no desire to better themselves. Don’t get me wrong, welfare is there if you NEED it but not to live off of the taxpayers.
Keep the job you were offered because it may be the only thing to come along for a while.
If you sold some things you would have immediate money. You can also take a part-time waiter job to make immediate cash.

I definately think you should take the job, you never know how the market is going to be and how long it will take you to find another. As far as your money situation, can you possibly sell something. Sell clothes to a place that buys gently used clothes, sell something valuable, pawn something (dont know if you have pawn shops in the UK) but , that would be what I suggest in order to get money for food over the next month……..sell something!

Your new job should have in place some kind of wages advance. I would explain to them you require x amount and they will deduct it from your first pay

that really does put you in a bad situation. I feel bad for you. you should take the job and like someone else said sell something to a pawn shop, then if you want it back you can get it back when you get paid again. i think they give you so long to buy back. this way you can have some money to get you through and you can start your job.
You should be proud of yourself for looking os hard and finding a job so quickly. sorry for you having the slap across the kisser tho.. what a bummer huh. good luck!

The system stinks.
I’d advise you to ask your employer for subs, if you choose to still accept the job, as you have little choice than to do otherwise.

I signed on for the first ever time today, and luckily I am able to collect JSA – having run my own business for over ten years I was told that it would depend on my National Insurance contributions over the last two years if I would actually get any money at all.
I would like to work, but it would go against me at the moment as I am going bankrupt next week, so I have to play the system for the first time in 25 years of work.
If you can’t beat them, join them.

A little joke about a job centre for you ;

A guy walks into the local Job Centre Plus, marches straight up to the counter and says, "You know, I just hate drawing welfare. I’d really rather have a job."

The social worker behind the counter says, "Your timing is excellent. We just got a job opening from a very wealthy old man who wants a chauffeur and bodyguard for his beautiful nymphomaniac daughter. Definitely take the new job offer! And see if you can somehow make a little money to survive while you are waiting for your first paycheck. I would try selling some of your items on the internet or your clothes at a used clothing store. Try pawning something of yours like electronic or jewelry. I would also try getting a job as a server at a restaurant or bar at night so that you can make tips nightly and have money on you. Then when you get your paycheck from your day job , you can quit your night job. Good luck!
